Pilgrimage to Zvierki
 
    Pilgrimage is associated with the person of Youth Martyr Gabriel, the protector of children and youth. Martyr Gabriel was born in 1684, in Zvierki, village near Zabludow. Six-years-old Gabriel was kidnapping. He was tortured. He died with loss of blood from obtained wounds. His body was buried near country's church in Zvierki. In 1720, in the period of an epidemic, the children were being buried near Gabriel's grave. During a one funeral, the Martyr's body accidental was dug out. Not decomposed body was transferred to crypt of the church in Zvierki. The end of epidemic and many healings are connected with this event. In 1746, after a fire, wonder saved the body of St. Gabriel was transffered to Zabludov, later to Sluck, Minsk and next to Grodno. In 1992, the relic of Saint Gabriel was festively transferred from Grodno to Bialystok. It is preserved in St. Nicola's Cathedral, nowadays.
    Pilgrimage in Zvierki is above all pilgrimage of children and youth, for which Saint Gabriel is the heavenly protector. Pilgrims walked at intention of the health to himself and their family, parents prayed for their childrens, and youth prayed for a success in the school, special on the examinations. Pilgrimage from Bialystok to Zvierki is a short, one day's pilgrimage (about 15km). Pilgrimage always started from church of Prophet Elijah in Dojlidy, after a short common prayer called molebien. Pilgrimage finished in Zvierki, where new builded church under invocation Saint Gabriel.

    Pilgrimage began with a short prayer in the Church of Prophet Eliash (Bialystok-Dojlidy) on Friday at 15 p.m., May 2. Usually, about a two thousand of people took part in the pilgrimage from Bialystok. Pilgrimage organized the Fellowship of Orthodox Youth of Bialystok-Gdansk Diocese. Also smaller pilgrimages set off to Zvierki from other place (for example Bielsk Podlaski).
