Church
of the Resurrection of Christ, Bialystok
His Excellence Archbishop SAWA
established the parish under the invocation of Resurrection of the Christ in
Bialystok - Sloneczny Stok (Sikorskiego 9 St.) by the decree from 14th February
1989. The Sunday of Antipascha (the Sunday about Tomas) was made a parish
feast. Priest Wlodzimierz Cybulinski became the rector of the parish.
On 7th May 1989 Archbishop SAWA consecrated the square for building a temporary
church. On 22nd April 1990 a corner stone for building the church under the
invocation of Resurrection of the Christ, which is supposed to be the
continuation of the temple destroyed in 1938, was put.
Jan Kabac and Jerzy Uscinowicz
as well as Wladyslaw Ryzynski are the authors of the project of the church. The
temple refers to old Russian and Novgorod's traditions, with the use of a form
of sacral construction of Podlasie. Central plan, which is supposed to be the
image of mutually penetrating Greek cross, was used in the church's interior.
The construction work was initiated in November 1991. The work on project
continued to 1994 year.
Four years after the
construction had started, on 9th of June 1998, His Eminence Beatitude SAWA,
Metropolitan of Warsaw and All Poland, consecrated the cross on the main dome.
On 18th of April 1999 His Excellence Bishop JAKOB, the head of
Bialystok-Gdansk Diocese, consecrated 4 crosses for the side domes of the
church. On 1st of October 1999 the second parish feast of God's Mother
All-Queen was established. On this occasion His Eminence Metropolitan SAWA,
accompanied by Bishop JAKOB and the clergy, consecrated a cross for belfry and
the bells.
